Evergreen Senior Living is devoted to providing care, support and resources to older American and their families. For nearly 20 years, our mission has been to support and maintain the dignity, independence and wellness of each senior and their family. Now, in May 2017, we celebrate Older Americans Month; a time set aside to acknowledge and honor these Americans for whom Evergreen Senior Living has pledged to provide care.
The 2017 theme for Older Americans Month is “Age Out Loud”. This theme is designed to give aging a new voice – a voice that reflects what seniors have to say. According to the Administration for Community Living (the organization who leads this celebration), this year’s theme shines a light on many new important trends. What is means to age has changed, and 2017’s Age Out Loud moniker highlights that seniors are taking charge, striving for wellness, trying new things and being more engaged in their communities.
A 2017 presidential proclamation by President Donald Trump cites that Older Americans Month is also a time to thank and recognize senior citizens for the enormous contributions they have made to our nation. These seniors lived through many world events: the Second World War, the civil rights movement, the first man to walk on the moon. True to the “Age Out Loud” theme, this proclamation notes that today these same seniors surf the internet, tweet, blog, gram, chat and hashtag important moments in their lives alongside their children and grandchildren. In fact, you can share this important month by adding #AgeOutLoud to your social media posts.
This month is also an opportunity for seniors to share their talents, wisdom and time with their communities. With a lifetime of experience and knowledge, older Americans have the ability to shape our communities and make a difference for the younger generations who will follow their leads. #AgeOutLoud
