Have Fun with Your Senior this Season

This has been a unique season as many of us, especially seniors, are advised to stay in to stay safe. As a result, some traditions have changed, but the holiday spirit can still be alive and well. Things may look a little different this year, but they can still bring the same joy you remember. If you are wondering how to have fun with your senior this season, here are some suggestions:

Connect with Video. Thanks to Facetime and Zoom, it’s easy to include your senior in with all your holiday traditions! Let them see your tree, check out the Christmas lights, and even stay on with you as you frost those sugar cookies. Sometimes everyday traditions can be the most appreciated. Video calls make it easy to connect and include those you love!

Send In A Few Favorites. Speaking of connection, chances are you know what will bring a smile to your senior’s face this season. What is their favorite Christmas memory? Song? Cookie? Making a basket filled with a few of their favorite things like pictures, cookies, and even music can be a fun trip down memory lane for you and a wonderful way for you to share the season with your senior.

Make It Last! It’s great to remember our seniors during special occasions and even more awesome to give them a gift that keeps giving through multiple seasons. Consider buying and filling out cards in advance. Plan it so your senior will get a new card every week – all the way through spring! Your thoughtfulness may be appreciated more than you’ll ever know!

Include the Kiddos. There is nothing more wonderful than to see the intergenerational connection between seniors and children. There is something magical about each group’s perspectives and the mutual joy they tend to have when together. Whether you’re connecting via video, calling by phone, or sending in pictures – remember to include the kids in all you do to kick up the fun factor in all interactions.

Offer an Experience. The online world is vast and enables you to experience some of the world’s most amazing places – virtually. You can now visit museums and national landmarks or go to live webcams at the world’s best zoos. This season consider asking your senior where they’d like to go and what they’d like to see. Chances are you can make it happen and go there together online!
