The Benefits of Being Outside

Being outdoors gives us a feeling that we can’t get from anything else. There’s just something about the smells, sounds, and sights that never get old. As humans, we naturally feel connected to the outdoors, whether we are going for a walk, playing our favorite recreational game, or anything in between. Being cooped up in a house or building all day can make us feel tired and unmotivated. Simply going outside has a wide range of benefits which include:

Vitamin D

Just like everything in life, too much of anything is bad for us. Especially sun exposure. But our bodies actually require a certain amount. When outside, we absorb vitamin D from the sun, which is an essential vitamin for many different parts of our bodies.

Lower Blood Pressure

Nature has many calming effects on us. We become more still when we’re outside looking at nature and being a part of it. It relaxes our body and mind, which can lower blood pressure. That’s why, when feeling stressed; it’s a great idea to spend some time outside as it actually reduces hormones that cause stress.

Improve Focus

The feeling of mental block or lack of focus can be caused by spending too much time inside. When we are in the same indoor space for too long, we don’t let our brain work to its full potential. It’s healthy to clear our minds by being in an open space and getting some fresh air.

Better Sleep

Our bodies have natural cycles that are tied to sunlight. But many people struggle with falling asleep or staying asleep throughout the night. One thing that could possibly help with this is spending more time outside. When inside, we are usually shielded from most of the sunlight. When outside, our eyes take in more light from the sun, which can trigger our sleep cycle to function properly, resulting in better overall sleep.
