Caring is EssentiAL
To kick off Assisted Living Week, we celebrated Grandparents’ Day with a huge surprise. The next best thing to seeing your grandchildren on grandparent’s day is receiving a singing telegram or poem from them! Director Joyce Benton either sang or read a poem to residents that were selected by their grandchildren. Decorated cupcakes were also part of the celebration kick-off.
Each day of the week had a special theme, and residents and staff took part in the fun. The themes were hat day, western day, funny sock day, tropical day, and sports day. All were able to show off their creativity, which added more fun to the themes.
On Monday, we showed appreciation to the many volunteers who make life special at Evergreen place by creating thank you posters. Residents traced their hands on colored paper and decorated the thank you posters delivered to the volunteers. Even though we cannot see them now, we want them to know how much they are appreciated, and we are looking forward to having them back with us.
Musical entertainment was a big part of the weeklong celebration also. Music included a Johnny Cash and an Elvis impersonator, Billy O, and an outdoor concert by the local ladies band “She Said So!” Sugar Creek Cloggers also performed for the residents. Our toes were tapping all week long!
Carnival games such as ring toss, the duck game, golf, and bag toss brought back some great childhood memories. Prizes included candy, soda, hand lotion, and Evergreen Place merchandise.
Movies were also part of the week’s celebration and included Dolphin Tale, Hamilton, The Pursuit of Happiness. Can’t have a movie without popcorn!
To go along with the theme of caring, the marketing team took gifts to Assisted Living Communities in Bloomington Normal. Along with wishes for Happy Assisted Living Week, each community received mask ear savers with a heart cut out and heart-shaped suckers.
Again, COVID-19 encouraged flexibility with outdoor events, and Mother Nature cooperated with beautiful temperatures.
