Assisted Living Week
September 8-14 is National Assisted Living Week. Evergreen Senior Living communities across the state will be celebrating with a variety of activities and educational opportunities.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “A Spark of Creativity”. The theme, as developed by the National Center for Assisted Living aims to inspire residents to tap into their creativity through art or beyond.
Art therapy provides many benefits to older adults. Art can improve sensory-motor function and improve cognitive function. The American Art Therapy Association reports that art therapy can foster self-esteem and self-awareness. It can enhance social and personal skills and help with emotional resilience.
Additionally, the theme for this week can help inspire staff to get creative in the person-centered care they provide to their residents. Activities and events are meant to improve each resident’s quality of life by providing meaningful opportunities to enhance their daily lives.
